Here's something that occurred to me when I was in the shower...
Let's say you went to the doctor one day with a lump under your arm and you thought it was cancerous. But it turns out, inside that lump is the cure for cancer, guaranteed. The only thing is, in order to get the cure for cancer out of you, (and thereby curing millions), you'll have to sacrifice your own life. Of course, the decision is yours to make and only a handful of people will ever know, either way. Once they get it out of you, they'll be able to harvest it and cure everyone, but you don't have a lot of time to make the decision either because there's no guarantee that the cure will stay alive inside you for much longer. Would you be willing to sacrifice your life, right now as it is, to cure millions?

Although difficult to those that truly love you, I don't think there is much to consider. Even if you lined up a dozen children with cancer and had them standing in front of you, I doubt I would be able to say no. Even one child. I think in one way, it would be an ultimate gift to be given that opportunity. The perfect example religion wise is Jesus, of course. He did this for all of us. The answer is simple. Even if actually making the choice, and going through with it is not.
It's like the movie I Am Legend – the scientist has the cure within himself and he sacrifices his life to save humanity.
I believe that things happen for a reason and that God works in mysterious ways.
If God were to bestow this cure within you, it would take courage and faith to accept his will. I think it complicates things if you were to have kids though because you'd be sacrificing yourself (for the greater good) at the expense of your kids' lives. You'd be depriving them of a basic upbringing, even if they honor you for it later in life, but of course, they'd never know. I suppose they'd still have their dad though. Still, in this situation, it would take a lot of courage.
Michelle –you Peruvians sure have a way of ruining movies for people... ;-)
If people hasn't seen I Am Legend yet, you just ruined the ending for them!
No kidding! I started reading the comment, then stopped.
