Lorenzo & Daisy, our two dogs, recently got a bath and a haircut. I don't trust any groomer with them, nor have I been able to find one in Calgary that meets my requirements, so I do all their grooming myself. I always used scissors in the past and this was my first time using clippers (wow they are expensive – we spent $400 for the clippers and attachments). Now that they are done, we know without a doubt that we prefer them with long hair. Especially Lorenzo. It's much harder to maintain them that way (we'd have to comb them at least every two days) but well worth the effort. Nevertheless, both of them really did need a trim and I'm sure they'll appreciate it come summertime.

Your dogs are adorable! They did so well! Our little Nala will try to jump out of the tub when we give her a bath! You did a great job trimming them too.
We found a place right by our house and they do a great job with Nala. The first time we took her she was only a couple of months old and after 4 or 5 hours of trying to groom her...they called us and said she wasn't cooperating, and they don't sedate their animals, or muzzle them...so they didn't charge us, and we tried again a few weeks later and she did great! They even put the dogs in front of a window so they can be distracted while they groom them :) They specialiaze in miniature schnauzers so it has worked out great for us! And they charge considerably less than your regular chain pet store.
There was this grooming place in Toronto that we wanted to take Lorenzo to, but we ended up moving here way before he needed a haircut. I haven't been able to find anything close to it in Calgary – they wouldn't blow-dry the dogs, instead they'd let them air dry naturally. They also never kenneled the dogs, instead they were allowed to run around and play with the other dogs. It was a doggy daycare and groomer in one so they had a lot of space to let the dogs play. Their philosophies were very much in-line with what we wanted from a groomer – there's a ton of other things as well, but even those two things are impossible to find in Calgary. Sure it was expensive, but money has never been an object to us when it comes to our doggies ;-) Everyone knows they eat better than us – only 100% certified organic raw meat.
Anyways, until I find a groomer in Calgary that offers what we want, I'm more than happy doing it myself – and they're very happy letting me do it!
