The CRTC has a new plan to define what an "emerging artist" is and what can be defined as a "hit" in order to increase the amount of new Canadian music played on the radio. Presently, the CRTC requires radio stations to play at least 35% Canadian music, but there are no specific requirements for how much of that music has to be from new, emerging artists. Radio stations are loosely complying by playing only established, recognizable Canadian music which, most of the time, is fifteen+ years old…
